Education Initiatives
At the Clifton Strengths Institute, we identify and enhance the strengths of pre-kindergarteners to college students, as well as the strengths of the parents and educators who teach and love them. Through our Strengths-Based Education Initiative we develop competencies of educators as they attempt to identify and develop the strengths of every student. Here is a brief description of four of our courses:
Strengths 101: Principles of Strengths Development
Learners explore their unique and recurring patterns of thought, feeling, and behavior, and how these contribute to their teaching style and the philosophy and approach to student development.
Strengths Coaching: Individual Theory and Practice
Learners develop coaching skills for developing strengths for students and building individual success plans for children and youth.
Positive Psychology for Education: Building Hope in Our Students
Learners put research on engagement, hope, and well-being to the test in their daily work with students in an attempt to boost the motivation that each student has for personal goals.
Measures That Matter: Redefining Good Schools
Learners identify the measures that matter when defining a good school, an effective teacher, and a successful student.
Clifton Strengths Institute courses are designed to help busy educators build competency in developing the strengths of their students. Brief modules (3 to 4 per course) will encourage educators to put research into practice and then evaluate that practice and its effects on student development and educational outcomes. Courses will be conducted on-line and led by the nation’s leading strengths scholars/practitioners and America’s best educators. Each module will start with assigned readings and then take learners through VIEW-DO-REVIEW. Learners will VIEW mini-lectures from instructors, DO personal mini-experiments to put new learning to the test, and REVIEW new material via video conferencing/teleconferencing/blogging with fellow learners. Learners will integrate and demonstrate new knowledge and skills in a final course project. Each course is designed to be completed at the learner’s convenience (with sustained weekly effort) over an 8-week period.
